Merry merry christmas! It's cold and rainy here today...perfect for wrapping gifts, staying in and drinking eggnog. One of my most favorite things are watercolor paintings of interiors. I found an article this morning in the dec. issue of Veranda magazine of an exhibit at Cooper-Hewitt's museum in NY of "Nineteenth century watercolor interiors from the Thaw Collection" and I have posted some of my favorites here today...The very first paragraph is intriguing to me and I would love to create and have the same...
Basically, it was a pastime to do portraits of home interiors (or have them commissioned) in watercolor and then placed in tooled leather bound albums during the 19th century. Queen Victoria and Albert were notorious for this practice. Wouldn't you love to have such books? I say, get out your sketch books, colored pencils/watercolors and have a go at it. Mine in the past have been "doodles" but maybe I'll try and be a bit more serious and create my own leatherbound interior watercolor book!
Here are my favorites!

And a few of my own silly sketches...
